Gionee is
all set to launch its S8 smartphone in India. The Chinese company has sent
out media invites for an event scheduled on August 9, where it will reportedly
launch the device.
The smartphone was launched at MWC this year. The
smartphone offers 3D
Touch, which is similar to what Apple has in its latest iPhones
Gionee
S8 can recognize three types of force-based
touch for app interactions - touch to select, tap to preview and hard press to
run. Other interesting features include dual WhatsApp and dual WeChat profiles. Given the fact that the Gionee S8
is a dual-sim smartphone, these features will help users use two different
WhatsApp or WeChat accounts on a single device.
The S8 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display of 1080x1920 pixel resolution and runs Android Marshmallow topped up with Amigo 3.2 UI. It is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor paired with 4GB RAM and has 64GB of internal storage. The rear-camera is a 16MP unit with LED flash, along with an 8MP front-facing snapper. The 4G-capable Gionee S8 packs a 3,000mAh battery, in addition to a fingerprint sensor integrated into the home button.
Gionee S8 bears a price tag of EUR 449, translating roughly to Rs 34,000.
Recently, Gionee launched its Marathon M6 and M6 Plus smartphones in China. Like the previous devices in the Marathon series, the newly-launched duo features large-capacity batteries. While the Gionee Marathon M6 features a 5000mAh battery, its larger sibling M6 Plus has a huge 6020mAh battery.
The Marathon M6 will be going on sale in China starting August 6 at CNY 2699
for 64GB version and CNY 2899 for 128GB version. The larger Marathon M6 Plus
will hit the shelves on August 13 at CNY 2999 and CNY 3199 for the 64GB and
128GB storage variants respectively.
